Day 1 - Brisbane-Guangzhou

Arrived at airport  for 9.15 flight. Many people  already there having coffee.  I asked everyone to make sure that their bags had a ‘CAN’ label when checked in so nothing was checked through to Xi-an where we're going tomorrow. This happened to a friend of mine the week before. Jan and Tony weren’t seated together so I spoke to the cabin manager and he organised this. Everyone seemed happy.  It makes a difference on a long flight where you know a lot of people and have someone to chat with.  There were a few seats spare at the back of plane so some were able to spread out.  The meals and service on the plane were very good.  In Guangzhou, we were bussed in from the plane to the terminal so no delay waiting for a berth. Were met by our local guide Conan (not the barbarian he assures us). English very good, bright personality. Conan took us for dinner and had a  very nice Chinese banquet meal. We arrived at the (4 star) hotel and checked in - my room on the 27th Floor.  Conan took a couple of people shopping for SIM cards and converted someone’s from Chinese to English. He really is quite the modern young man, very chatty, friendly and up to date with technology. The hotel has wonderful views of the river, bridges and city which were all lit up.
